ok, theres no way to CORRECTLY describe western countries as rape culture. I mean, sure, you can describe an apple as a strawberry, but you would be wrong. rape culture implies that rape is rampant and normal and accepted. This is not the case in western countries. The fact that there is SOME rape, or the fact that SOME people engage in behaviors such as victim blaming, slut-shaming, sexual objectification, trivialization of rape, denial of widespread rape, and refusal to acknowledge the harm caused by sexual violence, does not mean that theres a rape culture. also, rape means a specific thing, unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will, slut shaming is not rape, and is not evidence of rape culture sexual objectification is not rape, and is not evidence of rape culture denial of widespread rape is not rape, and is not evidence of rape culture even refusal to acknowledge the harm caused by sexual violence is not rape, and is not evidence of rape culture. trivialization of rape is not rape, I suppose you could argue that it could contribute to rape culture. |
