But heartbreaking stories, even fabricated ones like this, are weaponized to ignore the root cause: Hamas started a war on 7 October 2023 by slaughtering and kidnapping entire families. Until the hostages are freed and Hamas surrenders, every community in the region—including everyday Israelis—remains trapped in a cycle of grief and defense.
