It makes no difference whether you choose to call the Raj British or Indian; their function was wealth extraction for the mother country, which is the essence of one form of colonialism. There is a world of difference between an exploitative relationship, backed by overwhelming force, which extracts wealth, and a mutually beneficial relationship, backed by no force at all, which adds wealth.
