"We are social creatures and unless you are a complete sociopath, the feelings and opinions of others matter to us." Except being a social creature doesn't mean you have to care about every person's opinion. To a social creature, the opinions of loved ones count far more than the opinion of some random hooligan or grand muckety-muck pushing this or that new law. A mentally healthy person does not give such strangers such am outsized weight. The world is full of people who disagree with me on all kinds of things, not just BL, and I don't think it makes me a sociopath to not care about what the talking heads on TV say. "It has become popular in our community to use hateful language to describe pro-contact boylovers." I'll be the first to admit that I don't hang out at any virped spaces, but perhaps you're being overbroad about what constitutes "our community." If anything, the pedoverse consists of a variety of communities which don't necessarily cohere. But to your broader point, all kinds of groups have internal conflicts and spew vitriol. As social creatures, we are tempted to police the behavior of those in our in-group out of the fear that the "wrong" image will adversely impact the entire group (personally, I hate it when members start salivating for violence). There's only so much back-and-forth you can do before you have to realize that you're just perpetuating the cycle. I don't waste my time thinking about what the virpeds think about us. The best you can do is just keep the culture going. Keep sharing youtube clips and BMs. Keep living a "normal" BL life in your BL spaces. Whatever you can do to keep the conversation going is better than adding to the noise of pro-c vs anti-c infighting. ![]() |
