UK police and social worker outed me to my friends

Posted by BfG on 2025-September-13 17:38:52, Saturday

They have kids who I care for. Nothing even remotely questionable transpired and I have no feelings towards their boys beyond paternal love. I’ve known them since they were literal babies. I had reported a crime to the police as I was being harassed by a neighbour and I’d mentioned that I occasionally looked after the 2 boys (10&12). Police checked my record and discovered I had a non contact offence from 10 years ago and decided the boys were ‘in danger’, informed social work and disclosed my offence to them. I had done nothing wrong by looking after them for my friends. I wasn’t under any restrictions and was free to be around kids. No laws had been broken. No concerns had been raised by anyone. They just decided they were going to out me because they could. The social worker went as far as telling my friends to keep their children away from me

The first I knew of this disclosure, was when my friend txt me to tell me what they’d just been told. I couldn’t respond for hours as the earth had just given way beneath me.

There’s a lot more to this story, but I’m super tired right now so I’ll expand more tomorrow if anyone’s interested.
