Burnham's govt goes full Taliban on wanking

Yeah, well, here's definitely one for Halloween. Due to an amendment to the Crime and Policing Act 2026 tabled by some unelected member of the Lords, from 6 November it will be a criminal offence in the UK to possess or publish porn which shows consensual choking, or in which actors portray incestuous relationships, or which shows sexual acts in which one of the participants is portrayed as under 16 (even if the actor is an adult). This outrageous infringement of civil liberties takes the UK police state firmly into the territory of criminalising consenting sexual acts between adults, and what they are allowed to wank to. The terrible thing is that idiotic pieces of legislation like this remain on the statute book for decades, because no one can oppose them without seeming to publicly disclose their own fetishes. We have a country in which people are drowning in bills and debt because all the wealth is flowing upwards into the pockets of the multimillionaire class; we have Burnham coming into government claiming he'd reverse forty years of neoliberalism. Instead we get a piddling do-nothing budget and Burnham then reassuring the Tory press that he'll get round to cutting benefits for the young, except, of course, in accord with neoliberal newspeak, he calls it "helping young people into work". We get a government that said that Palestine protestors were right -- but who are not only still arresting old grannies as "terrorists" for opposing genocide, but who are now banning academics like Andreas Malm (author of The Destruction of Palestine is the Destruction of the Earth) from entering the country because he says things that Israel doesn't like; meanwhile Burnham continues to provide support for Israel's ongoing killing spree in Gaza. I'm sorry, Burnham is all hot air. The rhetoric has changed; the reality remains the same. Burnham is too shallow and too weak not to end up going along with the Labour Establishment. And now he's presiding over a state that's going full Mary Whitehouse Taliban on the British public.
