"First do no harm" is the most basic ethical principle in medicine. In medicine, when it becomes evident that a certain practice is causing harm, it is mandated to change the practice. In psychology, even though they are supposed to abide by the same principle and some practitioners actually do, it is still widely violated. This is because Popcorn is completely correct, that since the 1980's the entire foundation for most of them is built on the premise that this one thing is the root of all psychological problems, and can only be treated by a licensed therapist forcing you to discuss it with them and become convinced that it is responsible for all your mental issues. ![]() |
