My position was on lowering apprenticeship age. Plainly and clearly. The case your making against the doco does not touch it.

Sorry, but I never said anything about what should be done with severely disturbed boys. I was not commenting on the program's efficacy but using it as an illustration.

I used the doco to illustrate an unarguable truth: Boys, from around the age of puberty, need and do better with meaningful engagement with men. It was a popular current affairs doco, not the most deep and reliable document, but it was the making of it that was important, what they were expecting their audience to agree with. I certainly did. It was some time ago and I'd bet such a doco would not be made today.

Part of the process is evaluating ideas against potential pitfalls. But when you encounter that, whether for me or from others at this board, you become defensive.

I become annoyed at your NEVER addressing what I say in a post but wrenching it way out of context, down into your little fever dream of misery. You did this with my rather fantastical Palaistra of the Mind, you even admitted you'd got it wrong, then ended all discussion with the brilliant criticism that it was too idealistic. You are the gatekeeper of the lowliest dregs our society has created - you will not have them disturbed!

This time, you decline to address the lowering of the age of apprenticeship or to venture ANY positive plan for social improvement -- like the shallowest of politicians, you say it's "extremely complicated" and move on.

If you want to make me think twice about the benefits of a lowered age of apprenticeship, address it -- I actually would engage with relevant criticism. My idea is not a thoroughly thought through plan of action - the implementing would indeed be more complicated than a straight change of regulations -- but raising the idea as a worthy goal is the correct starting point. Attack it - I'd love to hear it.

But I'd even more love you to address the principle behind my mentioning the doco and putting forward the idea in the first place: Boys from around puberty need and do better with meaningful engagement with men.

Would you agree with that principle? Would you agree society working to facilitate it would be a good idea?
