Spot on, but a couple of things to mention...

First, "MAPS" is an umbrella term that tries to encompass too many divergent sexual interests, therefore is useless.

Second is your statement:
It was the 1980s that marked the beginning of the full-scale moral panic in the US.

It may appear that way to the poorly informed, but actually "moral panics/sex panics" have occurred repeatedly in the 20th century in the U.S.
