I think there's less chance of that under a proportional system. There are no 'minority' parties who would be willing to go into coalition with Reform. Even the Tories would be very reluctant indeed to be junior partners in a full coalition. This is the Achilles' Heel of Reform, that they can get 30 per cent but still not be able to form a majority government under a proportional representation system (though an unstable and short term minority government, unable to get any significant legislation passed, might be possible). Under first past the post, on the other hand, Reform could obtain an outright majority, and it would require widespread voter coordination, such as we recently saw in Caerphilly, to prevent such an outcome.![]() |
