He seems to get a free pass because he's been around forever, people feel a certain nostalgia toward him, and there's sympathy for his self-acknowledged mental health struggles. But it's worth pointing out that most of his posts are little more than random thoughts and ideas that have absolutely nothing to do with boys or boylove. That said, the fact that almost nothing else is being posted here says far more about the state of this forum than it does about him or his posts. At this point, the board is in a terminal death spiral, and I don't see any realistic possibility of recovery. It's like an airplane in a steep nosedive, already too close to the ground and traveling too fast. Even if the pilot pulls back on the controls as hard as possible, there's simply not enough altitude left to level out before impact. The crash is inevitable. Coonigan's spam is the least of our problems if that's the case. And that's how forums like this tend to die. Not all at once, but through gradual irrelevance, then desertion, until the only people left are those who can't bring themselves to leave, even when there's no longer an audience. Unfortunately, this forum appears to be well into that final stage. |
