On Trolling

I don't believe for a second that you're some kind of "troll wrangler," or whatever else you've claimed to be. I think it's all part of an elaborate act, and frankly, I suspect most people with a little common sense recognize that by now. I don't believe you're the person you've presented yourself as, whether in terms of your gender, identity as a BL, or any of the other things you've hinted at without ever quite confirming or denying.

My suspicion is that you're a longtime regular or lurker who has returned under a different name for reasons known only to you, either to stir things up or simply for the amusement of playing this character.

I'll give you credit where it's due: you're clever. Nobody can take that away from you. It takes a certain amount of intelligence, creativity, and determination to maintain a persona this consistently for this long. And I think you've been particularly successful at getting people to react exactly the way you want them to. Those who simply dismiss you as a troll, or get caught up arguing about your supposed gender identity, are playing right into your hands.

But for those of us who believe we've seen through the act, there's one question that keeps coming back to me: Why?

What are you actually getting out of this? Does it genuinely make you happy? Do you find this kind of interaction fulfilling? I ask because I can't help wondering whether there's something else going on in your life that's driving you to seek this particular kind of attention. Maybe you're lonely. Maybe you're missing a meaningful relationship or connection with a boy. That can hurt a lot.

Or maybe there's some other frustration or unhappiness that you're channeling into this character you've created.

I don't know, I don't want to know, and I'm not pretending that I do. These are just possibilities I'm throwing out there.

But I do wonder whether it's time to retire the act, register a new name, and participate as yourself to whatever extent security considerations will allow. You might find that having genuine conversations about actual issues is far more rewarding than constantly trying to provoke reactions from others.

And I want to be clear about something: I'm not saying that to insult you or condescend to you. I realize tone doesn't always translate well through text, and I don't want you to mistake what I'm saying for a personal attack. I genuinely believe that life can be difficult, that all of us have our struggles, and that sometimes a community like this can offer understanding, perspective, and even support. If there's something deeper behind all of this, you might be surprised by how willing people are to listen when the games and pretenses are set aside.

And one last thing: please leave monkey alone.

I understand that provoking him has become something of a pastime for you, and I suspect you get a great deal of satisfaction out of watching him react. But even when you genuinely disagree with him on substantive issues, there's little value in continually pushing his buttons just to get him worked up. He has a great deal more to contribute to this community than endless arguments with someone who seems determined to antagonize him. His reasoning, perspectives, and ability to engage with actual issues deserve better than being constantly sidetracked by these exchanges.

And frankly, I think you're capable of contributing more than that, too.

I'm not really sure why I'm choosing to engage with you, but maybe I'm just hoping to pierce through the prickly outer skin of whatever self-imposed shell you've created around yourself for self-protection.

Peace!
