Article on Boys Love

Linked below is a very interesting piece (not paywalled) at Compact Magazine on Boys Love. Not "boylove" as we speak about it here, but the Asian cultural phenomenon about which Sick Rose has posted on a number of occasions. Thomas Baudinette, an Australian scholar who has written about the genre (and is quoted in the article) describes the television programs, mostly produced in Thailand, as "soap operas which celebrate the love between handsome young men."

I am looking forward to SR's thoughts on the article and on the significance of the fact that this incarnation of "BL" (as it is usually called) is finally beginning to penetrate to the fringes of Anglosphere political discourse.

I will only note that the author of the article comments on "the challenge [the genre] poses to the notion of immutable sexual identity or orientation." This suggests parallels to the Jonathan Katz article from which I quoted extensively (and inadvertently, apologies again, repetitively) here.
