I am just running the numbers through my head:

$40 trillion, that is $40.000 billion. There are around 330 million citizen in the USA, which is like 1/3 billion. Which results in $120.000 per citizen. I am not sure about the average salary, but think it is around $50.000 per year.

I have no idea how a country may repay their debt. And that amount is insane.
