So I had dinner last night with a business associate. He brought his current girlfriend along - and, more pleasantly, his 12yo son. Son not super-super-cute.... but cute enough - y'know - I'm kinda attracted to boys so I engaged him in conversation... We hit it off straight away discussing cricket (he was wearing a 'Penzance Perishables' team shirt). But as soon as Dad joined the convo the boy's phone came out and we didn't hear another peep from the lad all night. Firstly these phones are absolute poison. And secondly, Youngsters have to be trained socially. They might be bored as fuck, but they have to endure to some extent and try to follow what's going on. I'm not saying that Dad and I were setting the world on fire (Oooops!), but a coming generation that simply hasn't heard a word spoken by their elders (even if not, by any stretch, betters) cannot be a healthy one. |
