I think you are right, in principle. Though, to make a comparison, I see boychat as a public place. Now in RL, when you are at the central market place in your town, you will also see a lot of people on that place, many of them nice and well behaved people. But also some with extraordinary behavior (often most prominently visible), and also the one or the other criminal. So you would be careful and not share personal stuff with everybody on that place. When a new face enters the town and his/her first visit is to that central market place, you would love to have this newbie seeing the good people, and not getting robbed by one of the criminals who surely look out for new inexperienced people. And now we look back to some ancient Greek cities, where philosophers used to stand amidst the crowd, and telling about their newest genius thoughts, some of which got written down and are revered until today by scholars.
