MAD MAGAZINE EXCLUSIVE: THE CHAISEN HALE SAGA!
(Or: "How to Turn a Tragic Car Wreck into a High-Tech Tech-Wreck!")

THE PITCH:
A 12-year-old kid survives a horrific accident, loses his family, and deals with his crippling grief by turning himself into a digital pop star. Because nothing says "I’m processing my trauma" quite like a catchy auto-tuned hook and a rendering queue that takes 14 hours!

The "Artistic" Breakdown

Our "hero" is Chaisen Hale—billed as "part boy, part music, part machine," but mostly just part pixels. He's the world’s first virtual pop star who looks like he was generated by a computer that was asked to draw "sad teenager who spends too much time at Hot Topic."

Creator Brian Gregory dusted off a screenplay from decades ago and said, "Hey, instead of paying human actors, what if I let an algorithm do the crying for me?"

Track-by-Track Trauma!

The discography reads like a playlist curated by a goth robot undergoing a software update:

  • "Boys Don't Sing": The debut album. (Spoiler alert: Thanks to Generative AI, boys don't actually have to sing anymore—a computer does it for them!)
  • "Circle of Chairs": A riveting 17-track saga about therapy. Finally, a pop album that captures the true, foot-tapping excitement of sitting in a circle with a bunch of strangers crying about their feelings!
  • "Believe": The big Season 2 finale. Chaisen gets a terminal health update and has only six months left to live. Wow, talk about a buzzkill! Nothing gets the dance floor moving like impending medical doom!

The AI Angle: Cyber-Crying!

The creators claim Chaisen is an "agentic AI" who reads and replies to your YouTube comments. That's right, kids! For the low, low price of your internet bandwidth, you too can be ignored by a fictional, traumatized computer program! It's just like trying to get your real dad to text you back, but with more metadata!

Then there's the Too Alive live concert series. They hired a real human teenager (John Victor) to stand on stage and pretend to be the fake digital teenager who is pretending to be a real teenager. Our brains are officially short-circuiting.

The Final Verdict

The GoodThe BadThe Ugly
Cool visual effectsMassive digital depressionThe AI is definitely going to sentient-ly sue us for copyright infringement

MAD RATING: 2 out of 4 Defective Microchips. It’s a touching cinematic masterpiece... if you’re a motherboard looking for a good cry!
