For the sake of clarity, by "we" I don't mean those who pontificate on the basis of presentist ideology and profound historical ignorance, but rather those who've bothered to acquaint themselves with the relevant historical research over many decades of reading. Obviously, that excludes you, so you need have no anxiety that I was including you when I referred to "we".
