his/her usual accusations. It is not simply that you need a boy, ryvid – it's that you also know that boys need you. It's that Tyred's surveillance cameras watching you watch boys' butts is a demonic gaze. It's that the whole arrangement is gone wrong. Tyred wants you, wants us, to interpret our desires as driven by self-interest, unlike her own. It's not just an accusation s/he's making: it's an act of conversion s/he's pushing, repeated ad infinitum by our culture of therapy, so cleverly secularized, by well-meaning/demonizing professionals. Take one step back, and it's not hard to see that what Tyred and his/her ilk are promoting is the decimation, not of boy love, but of boyhood. Her project (I'll stick with "her" from now on) is not to "save" boys from the benign gropings of men, but to poison eros itself, to make sure every hug is made uncomfortable (giving the Catholic Church a serious run for its money), is subjected to the deepest possible surveillance (the State always loves this), and is labeled with the most abuse-laden language possible at every opportunity. God is watching all of us, including, and especially, our tired and tiresome Accuser. |
