So, I spent some time compiling a playlist for my boy. Some of the songs he had asked for and written on a piece of paper. Some he had been mentioning about, some were from what I had played to him and he had yelled "stop, leave this one on". So I ended up with about 20 tunes from different genres. Mostly popular selections from social media and current pop, funk, rap and dance. Actually there are some pretty good choices for a 12 year old. And I had him on my own. I am usually stuck with some other member of his family but a few times I week I get him on my own and those are the times I enjoy the most. And that was one of them. I brought a selection of his favorite snacks - chocolate chip cookies, bananas and cold juice and I picked him up and told him I had his playlist ready and we were going on a road trip. "A road trip?", he said, "not really." "Why not?" asked I. "'Cause we have a destination" "We do," said I, "but can you pretend for a while?" and he did and we did and at one point one of our favorite songs started. (With all my YFs, I end up having a song that even years later stays like "the song" of our time. With one of them, long time ago, he was sick, off school, at home, and I called him and said, listen to this and this radio station. And then I called the radio station and requested the song for him. Later he told me, he did hear it. But I am sidetracking.) So, I turned the volume up and he said -"Dance! Do your dance moves!" and of course, much obliged, yes sir, yes boss, yes my boy, yes my baby, yes my lover, yes my love, I did and danced for him and then I saw him copying my moves and twisting his little body to the rhythm of the song next to me with the widest grin on his face. So, we danced, we danced together. Well, I did pray for dancing with him. I had however, requested a slow tune, and him embraced in my arms, maybe at the sunset at some beach resort while our room service dinner was getting cooked on the third day of our honeymoon. But I guess sometimes our heavenly DJ mixes up the requests or maybe he just heard "I'd like a dance with my favorite child to our favorite song" and that's what I got. |
