Should I care about whose Froot Loops has more Red 40 if I don't even eat them? Do I really need to do any research to find out if my poultry, fruits and vegetables have more additives and preservatives than a packet of British crisps or whatever it is you stuff your face with? You can ask all the research questions you want, but that doesn't make them good questions. And it's not like we have Froot Loops on every corner itching to blow some random passerby away. Gun violence in the US is largely an outcome of the Drug War and takes place between members of the illegal drug trade. Reality truly is subjective and most people don't live that kind of life. That's not to say that the problem shouldn't be addressed (primarily through legalization of drugs to undercut their income), but you seem to have little sense about what concerns are applicable to someone just walking down the street. No one will begrudge you for preferring your own side of the pond, but millions of Brits do that without shouldering such an enormous inferiority complex. Perhaps your nativist sentiment about seeing a McDonald's on the street corner is not so different from how the Reform types feel about seeing a Halal market. If you don't like it, then just don't go in there. ![]() |
