Unfair criticism

While I can respect the fact that this guy has taught this novel for years, his criticism does not seem consistent. One minute he's talking about how Ralph is supposed to be the hero and how in the novel it wasn't Ralph who was victim-blaming Simon. Another minute he's criticizing Ralph for not succumbing to darkness himself and not stabbing a random kid like he did in the novel.

The series is an adaptation, not a word-for-word recreation of the novel and it's not required to deliver the same message in the same way. I don't think the message that the capacity for evil exists within everyone was undermined by any of the changes. As such, Piggy dying as a martyr for civilization is an interesting spin in its own right as well as Jack being only reluctantly evil because of his fear of rejection rather than being evil purely for the acquisition of power.
