Courtly love -- a speculation

The minstrel tradition of song and poem celebrating the courtly love of lesser prince for higher princess originated, interestingly, in Spain, in the wake of the defeat of the Moors. A speculation I have encountered suggests that Moorish poems and songs of ephemeral passions directed, quietly, mostly towards boys, were reconfigured as accounts of "impossible" loves of males toward women of "unattainable" higher social caste.

That the love of "falling in love" tends toward the ephemeral and the "impossible" seems to be generally recognized across times and places: the Eros of the now in conflict with Philos or Agape or even the dutiful bonds of marriage into the future...
