She was actually quite explicit about her intention to retire from public life. She said repeatedly it was time for her generation to move out of the spotlight and let the next generations take their turn. Often this was directed at Hilary Clinton, so hard to argue. She would have retired earlier if that movement to get her sacked from her Arts College hadn't started up. That was her last hurrah. SP Volume II is officially dead. She claims most of the material in it was produced in other forums, essays, etc. The problem was, the moment for publishing it had passed. It was written as a paean to popular culture, and by the time she finally got published, it was no longer a good fit for quickly declining pop world. |
