Yes, "-philia" was originally non-sexual, but in the context of sexuality, it was coined for sexual attraction. And in the term "pedophilia", "pedo-" originally only included prepubescents. And there's also the term "paedogenesis", which apparently must be spelt with "ae" because "pedogenesis" refers to soil formation. And "paedomorphism". So it appears that in biology, "paedo-" means prepubescent. What if the "ae" spelling implied prepubescent, but the "e" spelling didn't? "Pederasty" is apparently typically spelt with "e" even in British English. "Paederasty" is uncommon. |
