What draws him (and those like him) in is the performance. There is a familiar mix of pride and arrogance where he gets to imagine himself as some kind of hero on a stage, microphone in hand, rallying people behind him. In his mind, he is risking everything for a cause. In reality, that kind of ego tends to blind someone to what they are actually doing and the consequences that follow. It is hard to point to a single example of this type of self-styled activist accomplishing anything meaningful. They generate attention, certainly, but not progress. More often than not, people like him create noise, attract the wrong kind of attention, and stall any real momentum. And others with the same need for attention and recognition will keep repeating the pattern, regardless of how often it fails spectacularly. So haters gonna hate, and idiots are gonna idiot. |
