"You don't typify the Left at all" The ascription of nuance is not a criticism, and subordinating one's intellect to a party line is not a virtue, so this is not going to worry me. My objections to the right are more fundamental than my objections to the left. I don't think the right are consistent with the decent treatment of human beings. It is typical of the right (including the Conservatives) in Britain they they want to scrap the European Convention on Human Rights; their impulse is always to tear up rules that protect the individual. Whilst neither side is friendly to us, the right are clearly more of a threat because of their open contempt for rules, and for their belief in the smack of firm government. Farage wants to build more prisons, and he means to fill them, and many of the new inmates will surely be us. Furthermore, his policies of Yankification will result in a hollowing out of the NHS which is likely to lead to a lower life expectancy for myself and particularly for my companion. You will therefore forgive me if I evince a quaint old fashioned attachment to my continued existence. ![]() |
