Pharmakon often puts the shift around 1640, there are other dates, but something happened to make masculinity and homosexuality no longer compatible. It's so silly, because it's so manifestly the case that, like you said, men and boys fucking can be both respectful and encouraging of masculinity. I love that you point out the obvious not-quite-truth of intercrural sex, and how contemporary scholars nevertheless lap it up. The truth is as Rossman says: plenty of boys love getting it up the butt. But you're also right that faggotry is threatening to the family, the most sacred of institutions. I'm not sure what needs to happen to dislodge such deep-seated convictions, but whatever it is it will take a long time.
