Thanks for looking up Chomsky's pamphlet.

The pamphlet edition you linked to contains OCR errors, and has a strange page format, making copying/pasting text problematic.

Anna's archive has many formats of the pamphlet, the original first edition, and of the later-published book, which is an expanded updated second edition. See the link at the end of this post.

I asked Mr. C. H. Bot, who closely works with Google, to explain the differences. Here's what he said:

PROMPT:

What are the differences between the first edition of Chomsky's Media Control The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda and the Second Edition?

RESPONSE:

Here's a comparison of the differences:

The primary difference is that the Second Edition of Noam Chomsky's Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda is an expanded two-section book that includes a new 2002 talk titled "The Journalist from Mars", which discusses media coverage of the "war on terrorism". The first edition, originally published around 1991, does not contain this additional analysis.

Key Differences

Feature First Edition Second Edition
Publication Year 1991 (approx.) 2002
Structure Shorter, single-section pamphlet format Expanded into a two-section book
New Material No Includes the 2002 talk "The Journalist from Mars"
Focus of New Material N/A Examines media coverage of the "war on terrorism"
Design Original design Redesigned to follow the format of his 9-11 bestseller
  • Structure: The second edition was updated and expanded from its original "backpocket classic" pamphlet form into a formal book structure.
  • Content: It adds fresh analysis of contemporary events, demonstrating the continued relevance of the Propaganda Model in modern media coverage and opinion control.

It appears to me that the second edition may be more relevant for us, as it includes material on the "war on terror," which, as you know, we are currently suffering the effects of ourselves.
