In my opinion, there are 2 angles to this panic. From the elite (governmental and big business) perspective, it's all about control. Governments get more surveillance data, big businesses also get more data that they can sell, and it also puts burdensome regulations that keep small businesses out of the market. From the common person's perspective, it's about "protecting the children", without even asking the children, because panicky childless people and lazy parents who can't bother parenting their children want the government to do parents' job for them. Unfortunately because children have no real say in society, it doesn't matter if laws or policies affect them negatively. Needless to say, the Roblox policy is stupid for the reasons you said, plus it actually prevents children from playing with their parents, older siblings, cousins, etc. |
