Subjectivity ("as" one of the defined class) is important here, as it is the primary mechanism by which meaning is made.

Historical/etymological nitpicking and grave-digging is the resort of scoundrels - the intellectual equivalent of common thieves, penny-pinchers, lenders, etc.
