Last year here at the shelter I'm staying at they organized a Halloween party. It was OK, but a bit forced, probably due to the nature of the people staying here. :-/ This year there was no mention of Halloween. The closest thing was the two tiny marzipan candies they put on our plates with the evening meal. I would have preferred to have yogurt, but they are chary handing it out. Can't have the inmates too healthy, you know! Where I live there are no kids going door-to-door collecting candy. They all go, chaperoned by their parents and wearing their obligatory costumes and carrying small plastic pumpkins--for candy, or for show--what happened to large paper bags, or--better still--pillowcases (the kids, I mean--the parents usually forgo any kind of costume)--to private parties hidden away here and there. Many in my neighborhood don't observe Halloween at all. They have their own holidays to celebrate. I went out (I was forced to leave my sickbed to collect butts to satisfy my nicotine addiction) and, besides the few kids and their mothers, mostly I saw only drunk teenagers, with their equally drunk girlfriends wearing chintzy sequined miniskirts and wobbling along on stiletto heels. Your neighborhood sounds much better than mine! Thanks for sharing... M. I have often been criticized for responding to "orphan posts". I guess there's something wrong with me, to judge from the comments of my detractors. You know, the ones who are trying to make BoyChat an inhospitable place to be... ![]() |
