I think this is a good example of how much flag wavers and flag burners have in common. It's the kind of black or white thinking that denies you the ability to separate the good from the bad. So when you say "They parrot tired old phrases about liberty and justice, as if these ideals had ever been intended for 'people' like them," this is really the mirror image of those patriots who treat the US founders as saints; either as angels or devils. Plus, I can't help but notice the pains you go to in order to make the UK seem not as bad as the US or as not a major source of the problem. Perhaps they're not, but methinks thou dost protest too much. When it comes to the US regime's authoritarianism, I'm more concerned about the propping up of dictators all over the world while engaged with the toppling of others, all at the cost of the local population in the form of their blood, sweat and tears. Treatment of pedophiles doesn't even rank especially since it's more or less a crime all over the world anyway. Moreover, pedo-hysteria is a cultural problem, not a political problem and if you think this is just a matter of getting rid of the right figurehead, then you're just spinning your wheels. I could go outside and burn a flag for the Fourth of July and, though it might tell people where I stand on the above-mentioned foreign policy issues, it wouldn't tell anyone at all what they should rethink about pedophiles. ![]() |
