"If she had her own cubs and looked after them with that same kind of intensity, she probably would have starved them along with herself." The lion who grabs the calf for food--he's society's "child-protector" in the story, I think. If the lioness had been capable of nursing the calf, it would have been a happier story. BL's of course are former boys, who know what boys need to thrive. We don't take in boys who still need suckling off of mama. We get the ones already capable of grazing and foraging, and who need some protection from the world who wants to devour them. ![]() |
