Isn't a reason a fact that let to a certain decision or outcome? Reasoning on the other hand is the application of some thinking in order to come to conclusions. Formal logic is indeed part of mathematics and is the foundation of mathematical notation. In most cases, reasoning is based on logic, but that does not need to be the case for non-scientific stuff like art. The "premise" trap is also know as "garbage in, garbage out". Modus ponens gives you a flow: assuming A is true, and B follows A, then B is true. But when A is false, nothing is know for B. Circular reasoning is a huge No in formal logic. Anything circular leads to paradoxes and contradictions. There are no circular dependencies in mathematics, that is part of the reason why mathematics is difficult. Logic does not require emotions. Computers are good at doing logic, there are logical programming languages which can prove statements like Prolog. Decision making on the other hand is not pure logic. It requires the application of evaluating options, putting a value on the outcome. And that is why they cannot decide what to eat for breakfast. A continental breakfast is the same as a peanut butter jam sandwich. You said it, the value system is necessary - emotion provides that. Logic is still working perfectly without emotions. There are a lot of philosophical discussions here, which are above my head. But not this one. I am not sure where you got the text from, but i would treat it with suspicion. |
