This is similar to the tradj controversy we talked about earlier, where BCers were divided between believing that people were who they claimed to be verses calling out obvious fakes when we recognize them. Most settled on just treating everyone as if they were who they claimed to be, due to the fact that we have no way of verifying who is who and arguing about it all day harms board moral. That situation happened back before the turn of the century when hundreds of people were frequently checking in to BC, so keeping the disruptions down to a dull roar was more of a priority than it is with today's shriveled husk of what was sources say was once a robust vigorous community.

Trusting everyone doesn't mean letting down your guard. We don't go by our real names here or give out information that could be used to track us down and harass us, but as far as letting people be in charge of sharing their own story and believing that they are who they say they are, well that's just step one in having a dialogue with them. We trust everyone because the alternative is to bring the conversation to a screeching while waiting on conformation that, due to the nature of anon conversation, is never coming.
