Safety? Usefulness?

Don't get me wrong, I think Tyred is pushing limits and making a nuisance of himself. On a better managed board he'd have been kicked off long ago.

But my criticism here is that his ban is clearly about who Tyred is and not what he said or did. What he said was so generalized and abstract that it can hardly be seen as a rule violation. Made by anyone else it would have been allowed to stand.

But let's assume that I'm wrong for a moment, and that it is in fact a violation.

If that's the case, and the cogs are being vigilant about safety, then why do they allow links to file sharing websites? Because they trust that xdsaz isn't linking to child porn? I'm not saying he is but what if he were?

File sharing links were forbidden 20 years ago, are they suddenly become safe?

Tyred's vague and abstract criticisms of what he perceives is the molester mentality of Boychat, pales in comparison to the real risks of allowing file sharing links.

There have even been links at BC to onion websites on the TOR network that had child pornography on adjacent webpages (the link is to a boy speedo pic but there is a link on that same webpage to actual nudity and porn). Those were PRFed and nothing was done. The link stood.

Given this glaring contradiction, is it unfair to make the claim that the cogs hardly care about usefulness or safety at all? Or that instead the cogs have decided to weaponize the rules against those they don't like while allowing others to do most anything they want?

Perhaps the cogs have no concern at all for Boychat being taken down like in the old days and maybe that's because the hosting situation is secure now. Who knows.

If they want to end the ridiculous actions of those like Tyred they need to have real rules that they actually enforce uniformly regardless of who breaks them. Before you ask, yes, I am in favor of some rules about civility and on those against trolling the way Tyred does. But right now the rules and their enforcement are a farce!

Usefulness? Safety? Last thing on anyone's mind. Rules when they are vague and selectively enforced aren't rules at all.
