Yes, the music is terribly insipid. The video is a very good example of the culture of premature heterosexuality, about which you have written so eloquently elsewhere. When I was young, mooning after girls was not something that boy characters in the TV series that I saw ever evinced. On the contrary, boys were portayed as uninterested in girls at best, if not positively hostile, at least until quite late adolescence. Since around the 1990s, however, premature heterosexuality has been egregiously promoted in western culture. Even very young boys are portrayed as constantly mooning after girls. My theory is that as TV production became more feminised, so producers favoured such portrayals, because it satisfied female vanity. For boys to not like girls seemed insulting. And of course feminism promoted the idea that girls would be a good influence on otherwise toxic boyishness. But although boys are now supposed to obsess over girls, they are not allowed to actually have sex with them, so they remain permanently unsatisfied. It was much better before the fem takeover.
