..I know what you mean but what you are saying is inexact because we don't have the words in English to describe precisely what we mean by "I feel". That is why you really can't say, "feelings have no bearing on whether something is true or not". We use that phrase to to describe a number of different things both emotional and psychical. For example: In the winter, I might say "I feel cold" or in the summer I might say "I feel hot. You wouldn't say that is untrue because it is a feeling. I might say "I feel a pain in my arm" which is quite different from me saying that "I feel you are a pain in the ass". My point is you are talking about an number of different psychical reactions dumped into one expression, "I feel". You can't really say feelings are not true.... because if you had the expertise and right equipment they could be identified based on the identifiable chemical reactions within the body. They are real in the sense that they are a physical process. Take depression for example. I might say I feel depressed and my doctor determine that I don't have enough serotonin and give me a reuptake inhibitor. That is real. That is not to say you are altogether wrong either but it is still an issue with linguistics. How saying "feeling" is inexact to what we mean. Also because feeling cross the boundary from internal to external in the form of actions, and that is where it gets really messy:) Because what people often express as "feelings" are really thoughts. When I say I feel you are wrong that is a thought i.e I think you are wrong. It's a matter of language. I think that is where you are getting hung up between wht is a thought and what is a feeling. Now I might also have feelings about you being wrong. So it is entirely more complex then you are making it out to be but simply dismissing it was unreal. Feelings are real.... thoughts and beliefs are a different story. You said, "you can feel that something is true, and its not true." seriously, do you really want to discuss the relativity of "truth"? Also you can't "feel" something is true or not true.... you think it. International Boylove Day BoyWiki |
